You might have read at many places that eat small, frequently and live healthy. I never understood it, if you eat exactly the same quantity in 2 meals then how it matters to have it in 6.

Answer is in the devil of emotional, sensual pleasure of taste, texture and chewing. Eating high quantities in one sitting, tells our body that you have extra energy, go store it as fat. Our mind is not smart to calculate exactly how much we need, though it tries but all that is at a primitive level. Like our technology, our food industry has outgrown our evolution pace to cope up with.

While eating food we enjoy its taste, texture and smell. This triggers our pleasure area which ends up in craving for more and more. You might wonder what triggered the thought of eating in the first place, the answer is not so straight forward. We think our body knows what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat. Which is absolutely wrong, perhaps true for skinny people. It’s a clock work of eating food in the morning, noon and evening which triggers hunger feeling, notice, you will feel hungry at the same hour unless you are too occupied. Another factor is emotion, when we see someone eating, it starts ringing. You might be familiar with the concept of stress eating and comfort food, which is on similar lines.

Ok, now we have fat, question comes, how to take it out. By breathing, shocked, fact is it is the only way. How come? fat burned by the body into carbon dioxide and water, it needs oxygen to do so, hence breathing. And this is a painfully slow process. So, what choice do we have unless we decide to fight every moment?

Eating small is a technique to fight this devil on a daily basis. You can’t win it but develop a habit of fighting, which becomes a norm or so called healthy habit.
